On August 26, 2026, a glacial collapse and landslide triggered catastrophic flash flooding along the Nepal-China border. Officials continue to assess the damage in impacted communities, including the Rasuwagadhi-Gyirong Port crossing, an important trade, trekking, and pilgrimage route that draws visitors from all over the world. Many lives were lost, and thousands of people remain missing. Infrastructure damage, lack of resources, and a high risk of continued flooding make recovery efforts extremely challenging.
