Overview of Texas during snowstorm of 2021

How to help: 2021 winter storms

Updated February 19, 2021

Winter storm Uri has brought extreme winter weather to many southern states, with winter storm Viola following closely behind. These storms are affecting areas that are unaccustomed to snow, ice and cold temperatures. In many of these areas, essential infrastructure — such as power grids and water systems — is not prepared to handle freezing temperatures for days on end.

As a result of the winter weather, millions are facing lasting power outages and boil water advisories. Pipes have burst and water supply remains a concern.

How to help

Currently, critical needs include warming shelters, food and water distribution, evacuation support, family reconnection and health care management.
