Catalyst Fund Impact

The Fidelity Charitable Catalyst Fund reflects our renewed commitment to strengthening communities by connecting donors with promising nonprofits. And we’re proud of the progress we’ve already made. With expanded grantmaking, deeper relationships, and a bold new strategy, we’re funding intermediaries that serve thousands of donors, including in 16 historically underfunded states across the South Central and Mountain West regions.

This page showcases the Catalyst Fund’s growing impact and our ongoing efforts to advance its mission. From site visits to new collaborations, we’re committed to showing up, listening, and learning as we help build a stronger philanthropic ecosystem.

Grants by focus area

Engaging donors grants: $19.5 million

These grants fund efforts that help donors identify their giving priorities, connect donors with one another so they can learn from each other and give collectively, and build donor awareness about charitable giving opportunities in our communities.

Elevating nonprofits grants: $10.2 million

These grants ensure that promising nonprofits are positioned to get the attention of new donors and are trained on how to engage with donors authentically.

Field building grants: $4.2 million

These grants support initiatives that generate new data, giving the nonprofit sector insights into how to effectively engage donors and providing opportunities for intermediaries who work with donors and nonprofits to share best practices.

Nonprofits fill gaps in our communities—whether by feeding people, providing after-school programs, or nourishing us through the arts. We believe that when donors are connected to local, impactful organizations, communities can thrive. Many donors are eager to get more involved locally but are often unsure where to start. That’s where the Catalyst Fund comes in. We aim to inspire donors to give more and to participate more with local nonprofits.

Granting across priority regions

Research shows that nonprofits in the South Central and Mountain West regions receive up to three times less funding per person than those in better-resourced areas, limiting their ability to grow, innovate, and meet local needs. That’s why the Catalyst Fund prioritizes funding in these underinvested-in states—to help close critical resource gaps and strengthen the nonprofit infrastructure where it’s needed most.
